Our Week 3 winner is Rae - congratulations! I'll get your stitchmarkers out to you tomorrow! There were two people who sent their mittens this past week, Rae and Kiki (Hi, Kathleen!).

Great job, both of you!

Only a week and 2 days to go...keep them going out, everyone!

Enroute on Monday, too

Have you guys noticed that just when you think you have life neatly organized, something happens and that schedule just totally falls apart? Or is it just me complaining because I hate disorganization? :-) (Um, and don't look at my desk or the house at the moment; you'd never believe the person who said that lives or works there!) In any event, after a number of delays, these suckers are bundled for Monday's mail run.

They're a modified Selburose pattern, but done in Dale's baby wool because the person specifically requested soft wool and she doesn't live in the extreme north; the added thickness of the two-color pattern should be enough. I'll be honest and say that I'm not completely thrilled with them because of some tension issues (my hands are acting up; I can't do better with fine yarn at the moment). They feel great, and I love the pattern, but I think I'll do these again in a heavier hand-wash wool which will make the stitches "hold" their place a little better. In the meantime, I'm hoping the gal who receives these likes them, and doesn't mind an imperfection here or there.

I'm sending my mittens on Monday!

Here are the mittens that some lucky person is getting! And by the way, if you don't like the buttons simply cut them off. They're strictly for decoration.

Enjoy your weekends everyone!

Note the little cuff INSIDE the mitten, that's the keep it closer to the wrist since the felted part is wider.

I made a small gallery for mittens done by participants. Enjoy!

Fair Isle for me!

My mittens arrived two days ago. I was thrilled with them, and my DH was impressed, too. Anyway, a thousand thanks to the super-talented Rae who knitted a gorgeous pair of mittens for me that I cannot wait to wear.

If only Mother Nature would comply and the weather would cool enough for me to wear them all the time. They are gorgeous, and like I wrote Rae, they far exceeded my expectations for this swap. See/read more about the other goodies, a chocolate bar and a skein of yarn she sent at bekka.

Mittens almost sent...tick, tock, tick, tock...

I've just about finished my second mitten today and as soon as they're both ready to be mailed I'll post a picture. These are called 'double cuff mittens' because you knit a huge pair of mittens, felt them, then knit a separate cuff that you insert inside the mitten so they stay snug on your wrist.

The photo is a pair I made for my One Skein pal. The ones I'm making for our mitten swap do not have the fur cuff and they aren't pale blue. But I wanted you to get an idea of what I'm doing. They are so fun to make - the trick is in the felting because if you felt too much they won't fit. My work group made a bunch of these last year for the homeless - without the fur, of course.

mittens received!

i received my mittens yesterday in the mail and somehow managed to unwrap them on the walk back to the apartment without dropping the dog's leash or any of our other mail...i hope i love these mittens. as soon as i can take a photo to mail them i will but if you want you could just take a look at evelyn' blog! thank you thank you they are beautiful!!! if only it were cold so i could wear them!

Week 2 Contest & My Mittens

Week 2 is nearly over so remember, if you send your package between October 9th and October 14th, you will be entered in the next drawing to win a set of stitchmarkers from yours truly!

My Mittens
I finished my first one and am ready to start the second one. They're cherry red with some white mohair thrown in for the heck of it. I can't wait to show a picture but I just haven't had time to take one. I think I'll just wait until they're done, then I have no excuse. LOL!

Enjoy your evening - or day - everyone!

Our First Contest Winner!

So here I am in the wee hours of the morning and as I couldn't sleep I thought, ok, might as well do the drawing for our first contest now. So I took slips of paper and wrote all of the 7 names on them, tossed them in a bowl, closed my eyes and drew one and it was Chrissie. Congratulations, Chrissie! I'll get your stitchmarkers into the mail on Monday. I sure hope you like them.

But there's still a problem - I'm still wide awake. I think perhaps I'll go knit.

Have wonderful day, everyone.

First of all, may I say that all of the knitting I've seen so far is absolutely wonderful!!

Now, on to the first contest. Tomorrow morning (October 8th in the US), I will draw a winner from whoever has mailed their packages as of today, October 7th. I'll be checking swap-bot for the 'sent' by your name - if it doesn't say sent then you won't be in the first contest. But don't despair, there are 4 more contests to go! Watch for a winner tomorrow on the blog!

P.S. Here are who I know have sent so far:

Alison, Erin V, Jennifer H, Dalinda, Chrissie, Signe and Cate

Mittens in my mailbox

Thanks, Erin. I love my mittens.

Finally Knitting~

I had the hardest time getting going on these mittens. I chose a lovely yarn & a lovely pattern, but they just didn't want to work together. No matter what needle I choose and how I modified the cuff, that thing just ended up way huge. So, I keep the pattern, picked out some new yarn, and Eureka! I think I have it.
(I think I now know why everyone complains about posting picture in blogger...)
I'm using a pattern from Knit Mittens (the book shaped like a mitten) with black Gems pearl & my own handdyed merino sock yarn in Peacock. The background going to be black on the whole thing with the hand dyed yarn being the pattern. Now I just need to knit knit knit!
Some one a post or two back was asking about future swaps. I don't know of a magazine swap, but I am hosting a swap, The Handspun Sock Yarn Swap. Sign ups are open till the end of the month.
Wish me luck~

I've started my mittens

I finally found the pattern I want to use and started my mittens last night. I was originally going to make the mittens out of some baby alpaca yarn but there's a problem. Because it's hand spun it's not even all the way through the skein, which means there are bumps and skinny places and fat places all along the ply. So I either have to find a different pattern to accommodate the fiber or pick a different fiber. Live and learn, right?

FYI Everyone: I don't recall if I've mentioned this or not but I've set up another mittens swap at swap-bot called Mitten Swap Deuce. You can sign up until October 30th and the mittens have to be sent by November 30th. I was also thinking of doing a funky scarf swap but I'll wait until after the holiday's for that one!
